I have immensely enjoyed leading the efforts to build a premier academic service with two full time surgeons and a fellowship program that is considered the top destination for candidates seeking to further their knowledge and skills in the field globally.
I have been part of over 100 peer-reviewed publications, and I am committed to developing and supporting educational opportunities for colleagues worldwide. I have also been privileged to host 105 observers and/or visiting research scholars from over 20 countries. This diverse intellectual exchange has led to numerous research projects, invitations to present at national and international conferences, and honorary professorships in several countries.
Otolaryngology is a field ripe for the implementation of an innovative curriculum. Its unique anatomy triggers visualization, diagnosis and access complexities, and a desire to move high-level procedures from the OR to the office setting. At the same time, Silicon Valley’s health innovation network triggered my interest in the complexity of the US healthcare ecosystem and how to impact it through a “physician-innovator and educator” angle. With that in mind, I have co-created the “Otoinnovation Lab” with the goal of offering a departmental forum for technical talent and clinicians to interact and gain insights, education, and mentorship.
As Associate Dean of Research, I will oversee the efforts concerning a value-based innovation initiative, where I aim to utilize my interest and knowledge on the need for adequate, intense, and transparent alignment and interaction between academia/industry/ patient care to improve healthcare outcomes.
