PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: A panel presentation focused on the discussion of diagnosis of causes of nasal airway obstruction and indications and techniques of functional nasal surgery procedures. The presentations will encompass the entire spectrum of surgical management of nasal airway obstruction including septoplasty, inferior turbinate reduction, closed nasal valve techniques, energy devices options, open nasal valve procedures and functional septorhinoplasty.

Functional nasal surgical procedures are a major part of a Comprehensive Otolaryngology practice yet can be overlooked or underpracticed in residency training. A comprehensive otolaryngologist will manage patients with nasal airway obstruction who fail medical management frequently. They will also encounter failures of singular procedures. These clinical presentations cover a wide range of cases from straightforward to complex including multifactorial etiologies.

The panel will aim at a structured presentation from simple to complex cases and adequate time will be provided for audience polling responses to allow active interaction. Other goals include describing details of the utilized surgical techniques and highlighting possible variabilities in the management among the panelists and/or the audience.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Focus on diagnosis of multifactorial nasal airway obstruction.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Describe multiple surgical options for nasal airway obstruction including septoplasty, inferior turbinate reduction, closed nasal valve techniques, energy devices options, open nasal valve procedures and functional septorhinoplasty.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Discuss practice patterns among the panelists in deciding which surgical techniques to utilize.

Functional nasal surgical procedures are a major part of a Comprehensive Otolaryngology practice. We plan to utilize the panel’s experience in functional nasal surgery to stir a discussion of the clinical approach of these patients.
