PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Scary Cases 2022 case panel utilizes a case-base, interactive approach to providing education in patient care and risk management. Exceptionally challenging cases presented by well-known experts and experienced clinicians will focus on what has gone wrong in the management of otolaryngology patients. Each expert will present a specific case that was difficult to manage, had unexpected morbidity or resulted in litigation. Attendees will participate with audience response system for key decisions during the case. Difficult cases are often great sources of learning. This panel will provide education on how to anticipate and avoid unwanted outcomes.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Identify potential pitfalls inherent to the practice of Otolaryngology that may lead to adverse outcomes or put patients at excessive risk

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Identify unique patient and system factors that can lead to adverse outcomes not directly related to a patient's surgery

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Identify unique risk factors related to treating patients in the outpatient setting

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: All physicians care for challenging patients; these can be sources of significant education. This panel provides an opportunity for experienced practitioners to present cases which challenged them in different ways, allowing others to learn from those patients and challenges.
