Timothy L. Smith, MD, MPH, FACS is currently Professor and Vice Chair and Chief of Rhinology and Sinus-Skull Base Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Smith is a recognized expert in nasal/sinus/skull base disorders and his clinical practice is focused on nasal, sinus, and skull base disease and surgery including management of complex sinus disease, tumors of the sinuses and skull base. He has held several research grants including serving as the Principal Investigator of the first multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary study of outcomes of sinus surgery funded by the National Institutes of Health in the United States. Dr. Smith has given over 350 lectures nationally and internationally. Dr. Smith is board certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Triological Society and the American Rhinologic Society.
Dr. Smith has published over 400 peer-reviewed articles, invited articles, book chapters, and other scientific publications. He is the first American Rhinologist/Sinus Surgeon to be elected to the Collegium Oto-Rhino-Laryngologicum Amicitiae Sacrum, a distinguished international society of only 50 US members.
Dr. Smith is a Past President of the American Rhinologic Society, the largest subspecialty organization of practicing nasal/sinus surgeons in the USA, and was elected to both the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He has serves as Editor-in-Chief of the International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology and has served on the editorial boards of several other journals.
