Dr. P. Daniel Knott has been the director of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) since 2011. He completed otolaryngology residency training at the Cleveland Clinic and a fellowship in facial plastic surgery at UCLA. Dr. Knott has extensive expertise in facial gender affirming surgery, facial aesthetic surgery, rhinoplasty, Mohs surgical reconstruction, the treatment of facial paralysis, and microvascular facial reconstructive surgery. He co-directs the UCSF facial plastic fellowship with Dr. Rahul Seth. They have been performing facial gender affirming surgery since 2015.
His research efforts have been recognized with numerous national awards, including the Robert Maxwell Byers Award, the Ira Tresely Research Award from the American Head and Neck Society, and the Ben Shuster Memorial Award from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has also received multiple teaching awards.
He serves on multiple national committees, including the awards committee, the history committee, and cutaneous cancer committee of the Head and Neck Society. He is the current chair of the Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Education Committee for the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Knott is a senior examiner and facial plastic surgery content expert for the American Board of Otolaryngology. He is the associate editor for Facial Plastic Surgery for Laryngoscope and is on the editorial board of Facial Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine.
He has authored over 80 papers, 5 book chapters, and multiple review articles. He is co-editing both a textbook and a special edition of Operative Techniques in Otolaryngology on facial gender affirmation surgery. He speaks 4 languages and partners with his wife Haydee, a cosmetic dermatologist in private practice in Marin, in raising their 3 children.
