Leyn Shakhtour, BS, 3rd year medical student, George Washington Univeristy School of Medicine
Leyn Shakhtour is currently a third-year medical student at the George Washington University School of Medicine (GWU). Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health and Biology from GWU in 2021. With a passion for Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, Leyn is dedicated to making a significant impact in her chosen field. Her research interests encompass diverse areas, including human papillomavirus (HPV) related cancers, immunotherapy for head & neck cancers, Integrative Oncology, salivary gland function, and quality improvement in pediatric otolaryngology. Leyn's dedication to research has earned her notable recognition. In 2022, she was awarded the prestigious W.T. Gill Fellowship, and in 2023, she received the GWU Department of Surgery Seed Research Grant for her research on Thymosin B4 as a biomarker for salivary gland function. Currently, Leyn is a semi-finalist for the esteemed 2023 AΩA Caroline L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship. Beyond her academic pursuits, Leyn enjoys balancing her life with other interests. She finds joy in playing soccer and exploring diverse cuisines, which helps her maintain a well-rounded and fulfilling lifestyle.
