Luis E. Hernandez-Rodriguez is a fourth-year medical student at the Universidad Central del Caribe (UCC) who completed a bachelor's degree in Pre-Medical Studies from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus. Currently applying for Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency, Luis demonstrates a deep commitment to making a positive impact in the field. As a co-founder of an association aimed at raising awareness about the obstacles faced by the Deaf community, especially in medicine, he strives to promote inclusivity and cultural understanding. Additionally, he co-founded and serves as co-president of the Otolaryngology interest group at his medical school, fostering interest and collaboration among his peers. With a passion for research, Luis participated in the Mayo Clinic Summer Research Fellowship, studying the effects of a drug on patients in the Emergency Department. He also conducted a separate study at his medical school, investigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Deaf community, as well as a study on the effects of post-COVID-19 ENT-related symptoms in the Puerto Rican population. Alongside his medical pursuits, Luis has been a dedicated tenor in various choirs, participating in international competitions where the choirs achieved recognition and received prestigious awards. Through his multifaceted experiences, leadership roles, and commitment to research and patient care, Luis aims to make a meaningful contribution to the field of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery while advocating for inclusivity and advancing healthcare.
