PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This presentation will include live simulation and panel discussion to approach implicit bias. We will examine how our unconscious attitudes towards our patients and colleagues affect our professional behavior and medical decision making and how these biases can be heightened in challenging scenarios. Simulated cases will include participation of "blinded" volunteer providers who are naive to the case and outcome. Ensuing panel discussion will empower participants with tools and strategies to recognize and address implicit bias in their clinical practice environments. This session will be valuable to residents-in-training, mid-level providers, and experienced clinicians in their professional development.

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: In support of the increasing diversity of our specialty, we should recognize the pervasiveness of implicit bias
and grapple with its effects colleagues and patients. This will improve professionalism and interdisciplinary teamwork, which is a key component towards optimizing patient care.
