PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This panel explores the role of mentorship, coaching and sponsorship as they pertain to career development. Dr. Carol Bradford, AAO-HNS immediate past president, will discuss the role sponsorship played in her career and in becoming dean of The Ohio State School of Medicine, as well as how she sponsors mentees. Dr. Rahul Shah will address the role professional coaching played in his path to hospital administration, as well as how to seek professional assistance. Dr. Dana Thompson will discuss mentorship and sponsorship with emphasis on for under-represented minorities. Patti J. Ayers is an executive coach specializing in healthcare and the president and founder of Turning Point Consulting. She will share her 29-year coaching experience to include coaching models, benefits, and practical tips for finding a coach that meets your needs. This panel has been very well attended and received for 2 years running.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Learn to identify sponsors to help you reach your professional goals, whether they are within your specialty, hospital leadership, etc.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Explore how to become a sponsor for others, including URM colleagues.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Discuss what professional coaches offer and how to engage a coach.

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: Mentorship, coaching, and sponsorship are under-utilized models within Otolaryngology-HNS. Increased awareness of the benefits, pearls on obtaining a coach, and the importance of sponsorship will help achieve career goals.
