PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Technological improvements have permitted a change in the site of treatment of a wide variety of laryngeal disorders from the operating room to the office. Cases of vocal fold paralysis, atrophy, papilloma, precancerous epithelial change, benign vocal fold lesions and others may now be safely addressed in the awake patient under topical anesthesia. The boundary between OR and office treatment continues to shift as treatment tools evolve and practitioners gain experience. This panel will address critical decision points in choosing one method over another for a gamut of disorders via a case-based discussion among practitioners who regularly treat patients both ways. It will highlight considerations in patient and case selection, relative advantages of OR and office treatment as well as limitations, and reasons for variation in practice between practitioners.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Understand considerations in selecting to perform injection augmentation in the operating room under microscopy versus in the office under endoscopy

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: The evolution of office treatment represents a fundamental shift in clinical practice in laryngology, and one for which guidelines and principles are not often discussed. This panel aims to address this lacuna.
