Dr. Alexander G. Chiu, M.D. is the Russell E. Bridwell, M.D. Endowed Chairman and Professor of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Kansas in Kansas City, Kansas. He is the scientific executive director of the Center for Health Innovation and Transformative Care at the University of Kansas. Previous to this he served as the Founding Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Arizona and started his career on faculty at the University of Pennsylvania. He has held multiple leadership roles, including co-Chair of Banner-UA Academic Management Council, Interim Chair of the UA Department of Surgery, UA Otolaryngology Residency Program Director and the Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery Fellowship Director at both the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Arizona.
Dr. Chiu’s academic and clinical focus is in the field of endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery of the nose, sinuses and anterior skull base. Dr. Chiu completed his medical degree at Albany Medical College and residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Georgetown University Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in sinus and skull base surgery at Stanford University.
Dr. Chiu is the past editor-in-chief of ENT Today, past editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy and the editor of 2 textbooks: Sinonasal Tumors and Atlas of Endoscopic Sinus and Skull Base Surgery, the latter of which just had its second edition published in fall 2019. He has published over 175 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on sinus and skull base surgery.
Dr. Chiu is actively involved with research involving the topics of digital technologies and healthcare delivery, chronic rhinosinusitis, sinonasal tumors and outcomes of sinus and skull base surgery. He leads a multi-institutional collaborative studying health inequities in otolaryngology.
