Dr. P. Daniel Knott has been the director of the section of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at UCSF since 2011. Dr. Knott has extensive expertise in facial gender affirming surgery, facial aesthetic surgery, rhinoplasty, Mohs surgical reconstruction, the treatment of facial paralysis, and microvascular facial reconstructive surgery. He co-directs the UCSF facial plastic fellowship program and the head and neck oncologic surgery fellowship. He has been performing facial gender affirming surgery since 2015.
Dr. Knott earned his medical degree at the University of California, San Diego. He then completed a rigorous six-year surgical residency at the Cleveland Clinic in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. He pursued advanced training at the prestigious UCLA Facial Plastic Surgery Fellowship.
He received the highest oral board score in the country. His research efforts were rewarded with numerous national awards, including the Robert Maxwell Byers Award, the Ira Tresely Research Award, and the Ben Shuster Memorial Award from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has also received multiple teaching awards.
He serves on multiple national committees, including the awards committee, the history committee, and the new technologies committee. He is the current chair of the facial plastic surgery education committee. He is a senior examiner for the otolaryngology board examination. He has authored over 70 papers, 5 book chapters, and multiple review articles. He speaks 4 languages and partners with his wife Haydee, a cosmetic dermatologist in private practice in Marin, in raising their 3 children.
