Dr. Hansen grew up in Ashland, Oregon and graduated cum laude from Pomona College with degrees in Chemistry and French. Following her undergraduate studies, she received a Fulbright scholarship to study in Paris, France, where she obtained a Master’s in Microbiology from Pierre and Marie Curie University, graduating summa cum laude, and performed research on surveillance methods for Shigella under the mentorship of Dr. François Xavier-Weill at the Pasteur Institute. She spent the following year working at the Institute for Molecular Infection Biology at the University of Wuerzburg in Germany, where she studied RNA biology in enterococcal species in Dr. Joerg Vogel’s research group. Dr. Hansen subsequently earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School (HMS) where she graduated cum laude for her research on equitable delivery of high volume surgical care in an integrated healthcare system under the mentorship of HMS faculty Regan W. Bergmark, MD. She also conducted research on timely access to care and clinical outcomes for head and neck cancer patients alongside Dr. Bergmark, Dr. Rosh K. Sethi, MD, MPH; Dr. Laura A. Goguen, MD, FACS; and Dr. Donald J. Annino, MD, DMD.Dr. Hansen’s current professional interests include mentorship, health equity and disparities research, health services research, and global healthcare delivery.
