Julie L. Wei, MD, is a Pediatric Otolaryngologist, Immediate Past President of ASPO, Past President of SENTAC, past Division Chief of Otolaryngology/Audiology, Surgeon-in-Chief, Director of GME Wellbeing Initiative for Nemours Children's Hospital Orlando. She is Chair of Otolaryngology Education, Advisor for Association for Women Surgeons, Adjunct Faculty/Professor of OTOHNS at University of Central Florida College of Medicine. She joined Nemours in 2013 and built a division that massively increased pediatric ENT/Audiology services in 6 locations across central Florida. With over 50 peer-reviewed articles, 14 invited articles, 12 book chapters, an inaugural chapter on wellbeing in the 6th Edition of Bailey’s, she also co-authored “work-life integration” for Otolaryngology Clinics. After high degree of burnout in 2010, Dr. Wei re-engaged in her career and life, and has given her instruction course on topic at AAOHNS since 2012. In 2019, Dr. Wei created an immediate access line for all trainees, physicians, and APPs at NCH where 24/7/365 all had access to psychologists. This program expanded access to all medical staff across the health system. She created a hospital medical staff Health and Wellness Committee, and novel ACGME wellbeing program for pediatric residents with one on one mental health orientation for incoming residents,every division chief and department chair. Due to unanticipated medical disability, Dr. Wei took a medical leave and pause in clinical practice from February 2022 to September 2023. This experience has fueled her passion and commitment to increaseing awareness and education on how physicians and surgeons can gain personal, professional, and psychological wellbeing.
Dr. Wei is an active member of AAOHNS, Triological Society, ABEA, past Associate Editor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and current Associate Editor for ENTtoday. She write the RxWellness column. She is married and considers her family and her 17-year old daughter Claire as her greatest blessings in life.
