Dr. Jacobs received his BA from the University of Pennsylvania and MD from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He completed an otolaryngology residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center, and he was the second fellow in Pediatric Otolaryngology at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 1992. He was an Attending from 1992-97 at Egleston Children’s Hospital and Emory University in Atlanta and was at CHOP and Penn from 1997 until the present time, where he is currently Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He started the Center for Pediatric Airway Disorders in 1998, which is currently a Frontiers’ leading program at CHOP, and he helped to start a laboratory in Biomaterials and Bioengineering for Pediatric Laryngology. Dr. Jacobs recruited the Dr. Gottardi, the PI on the Tenure track at Penn. The lab has 2 post docs, 2 visiting professors, 6 graduate students and 3 undergraduates. Dr Jacobs also started the Button Battery Task Force to help mitigate button battery injuries in children and he also helped start a national Airway Course at CHOP which is used as a model for courses in Europe and the US. He is a recipient of numerous grants, awards and citations including the Broyles Maloney Award for button battery mitigation strategies, Seymour Jackson award, Co-author on FB award 3 times and the Peter Koltai Award, and in 2021, he was the recipient of the Chevalier Jackson Award for accomplishments in laryngology. He is married to Mara Fiarman Jacobs, a graduate of Wharton School at Penn. She runs the household and EFM College and Career Consulting. He has two daughters. One daughter, studied at Elon University and Nursing at Penn, works in the CICU at CHOP and the other is a sophomore at Penn.
