Dr. Maria Colandrea is a nurse practitioner who specializes in general otolaryngology at the Durham VA Medical Center (DVAMC). She received her bachelor’s degree in Science at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. She received her master’s in science and doctorate in nursing practice at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Colandrea is a nationally certified otorhinolaryngology head and neck nurse. She has presented nationally and internationally, as well as has published as a clinical expert in otolaryngology. She is a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) and Ad Eudem Fellow for the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FNMRCSI). Dr. Colandrea is an Adjunct Faculty for the UNC and Duke Schools of Nursing. Her leadership includes serving as President Elect for the Society of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Nursing (SOHN), President of the NC SOHN Chapter and North Carolina State Liaison for the AANP. She was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award at Stony Brook University School of Nursing, Nurse Excellence Award at DVAMC, North Carolina Nurses Association’s Practice Nurse of the Year and Great 100 Nurse of North Carolina. Dr. Colandrea’s passion include mentoring NP students, caring for her veteran patients and advocating for the nurse practitioner profession.
