My name is Ebone Evans and I am currently in my fourth year resident training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the
University of Minnesota School of Medicine. I received my undergraduate degree in Biology with a minor in
Neuroscience at Winston-Salem State University. During my studies at Winston Salem State University, I
investigated the growth inhibitory effects of diallyl disulfide in BRAC1/P53-
deficient mouse mammary tumor cell line. After graduating I spent
five months in Costa Rica studying the Costa Rican health care system at Universidad Veritas. The summer
after returning home from Costa Rica I matriculated into medical school at Brody School of Medicine at East
Carolina University. After my first year of medical school, I was 1 of 10 students selected to be a member of the Brody SOM Research distinction track. Through this track I spent the remaining three years of medical school to study a mouse model in investigating the enhancement of opioid-induced mechanical analgesia via activation of D3 dopamine receptor following spinal cord injury. This study
led to multiple national presentations and a publication.
As an otolaryngology resident, I have developed an interest in medical innovation implementation into
Otolaryngology surgical procedures and pediatric otolarynoglogy. My current research interest focus on developing online tools for resident education, analyzing pediatric otolarynology referral patterns, and long term cleft lip and palate care. Next year I will be completing my fellowship in Pediatric Otolarynology at Arkansas Children's Hospital.
