Medical Student
Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
Joshua Barlow is a 4th year medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, recently returning to school after serving as the Head and Neck Research Fellow in the Department of Otolaryngology at Mount Sinai over the past year. Before this, he grew up in Richmond, VA and attended the University of Virginia for his undergraduate education, majoring in biology and psychology. His research interests include improving functional outcomes after free flap surgery, the use of circulating tumor HPV DNA for the diagnosis and surveillance of HPV-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, and the use of deep learning for the diagnosis of voice disorders. Outside of research, Josh is also passionate about education, acting as the president of "Tutoring at the Adolescent Health Center" and volunteering as a tutor for his peers as well as a mentor to grade school students through multiple organizations. He also serves as a senior TA for the first year anatomy course, a medical school admissions committee member and student council representative, and acts as a senior clinician and phlebotomist for EHHOP, Mount Sinai’s student-run free clinic. In addition to Josh’s activities as a medical student, he enjoys watching and attending games for his favorite Washington, D.C. and UVA sports teams, exploring New York’s diverse restaurant scene, and traveling outside of the city to hike, ski, surf, and wakeboard.
