Nicholas Waring, BS, is a fourth-year medical student at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons. He was born in Plano, TX, grew up in Raleigh, NC, and received his B.S. in mathematics from Georgetown University. He spent a year between his third and fourth year of medical school as a Dean's Research Fellow at Columbia University in Dr. Elizabeth Olson's lab. In collaboration with Dr. Heidi Nakajima at Mass Eye and Ear and Dr. Jeffrey Lang at MIT, he has been working on a project using sheep as a large-animal model to test a novel implantable middle ear microphone for totally implantable cochlear implants. He is currently applying to otolaryngology residency to start in 2024.
