Ladan Navari is a fourth-year medical student at the Ohio State University College of Medicine, applying to the otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery residency during the 2023-2024 application cycle. She was born and raised in Mashhad, Iran, and has graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from the Ohio State University Honors Program. Ladan has been heavily involved in research throughout her medical school career. Her research interests include investigating the diagnostic modalities and surgical interventions for management of the upper esophageal sphincter dysfunction, characterization and treatment of the velopharyngeal dysfunction, improvement of tracheostomy outcomes for adult and pediatric population, and assessing novel word learning among children with impaired hearing. Outside of research, you can find Ladan volunteering with or leading organizations such as HEADSUP, Mentor Me, and ASPIRE program which aim to improve diversity in the healthcare field, mentor students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and advocate for their pursuit of higher education. In recognition for her positive impact on her community, Ladan has been honored with induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) and received honorable mention for the Clotilde D. Bowen, MD Women of Excellence Award. When she is not doing research or volunteering, she is most likely trying new food, spending time with family and friends, writing poems, dancing, or creating artwork.
