Jean-Nicolas (J-N) Gallant, MD, PhD, is an Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) chief resident at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). He is interested in pursuing a career as a surgeon scientist with a focus on malignancies of the head and neck. J-N has a broad background in cancer research with specific training in molecular biology and the development of anticancer agents. He completed his undergraduate studies in Chemistry and Anthropology at Amherst College, where he carried out a chemical biology honors thesis under the direction of Anthony Bishop, PhD. Prior to joining Vanderbilt University's Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), he spent two years researching cancer drug development with Wafik El-Deiry, MD, PhD at the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute. As part of Vanderbilt's MSTP, J-N completed his PhD in cancer biology under the direction of Christine Lovly, MD, PhD, focusing on EGFR alterations in lung cancer. J-N’s current interests lie at the intersection of big data, surgery, and genetics; and, he currently works on a variety of projects centered around the molecular biology of head and neck malignancies.
