Dr. Haughey is a Head and Neck Oncologic and reconstructive surgeon with clinical practice in Orlando, Florida USA.
He is collaborative Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida and Professor of Surgery (Honorary) University of Auckland Faculty of Health Sciences, Auckland New Zealand. In the latter 9 of 26 years on faculty at Washington University School of Medicine, St Louis, MO he occupied the Joseph P. Kimbrough Chair in the Department of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery.
As a trainee, Dr. Haughey attended medical school and initial residency training at the University of Auckland, Auckland ,New Zealand and residency, fellowship and Master’s of Science studies at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Clinically, advanced, transoral procedures for head and neck tumor resection has comprised more than 2000 cases,with several published multicenter studies which have formulated hypotheses for US national and international clinical trial planning Also, research and publication comprised the HPV related, pathology-based Oropharynx Cancer AJCC/UICC 8th Edition staging system.
With other experts, Dr. Haughey hosted, organized the first multi-day transoral surgery courses/workshops in the USA and has conducted workshops on transoral surgical and reconstructive techniques in Asia, Europe, South America and Australasia. He is author/co-author on 140+ peer-reviewed publications, multiple textbook chapters. He has recently served on the NCCN’s Head and Neck Committee, the ASCO Unknown Primary Guidelines committee and the AJCC/UICC 8th Edition Staging Head and Neck Expert Panel. Dr. Haughey is listed in America’s Best Doctors, America’s Best Doctors for Cancer (peer voted) and America’s Top Doctors (peer voted) since these recognitions were established, and in Best Doctors in Orlando, 2016-present. He has mentored 31 Head and Neck Surgery Fellows and contributed to training of over 140 Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery resident graduates.
