University of Mississippi Medical Center
My name is Boris Kuyeb. I am currently a third-year medical student at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. I was born in the West African country of Cameroon. I immigrated to the United States of America when I was 13 years old with the dream of becoming a physician. I subsequently completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Memphis with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. During my gap year prior to medical school, I worked as an emergency department scribe and at a plant lab. Over the past year of medical school, I served as the vice president of Black Representation in Medicine and as a mentor for the Brotherhood Alliance for Science and Education providing guidance, information and resources to aspiring pre-medical students. I have always enjoyed teaching which led me to being a tutor in college and continued my aspiration in medical school with involvement in mentoring programs which led to me speaking as a panelist at the Black Men and Women in Medicine Summit at AMEC 2023 to high school students. I am passionate about being an outlet to upcoming generations of aspiring students and providing the necessary avenue and through volunteering in programs targeted at increasing the diversity of minority medical students, I gained a further understanding for the need of mentorship. Outside of my career and medical aspiration, I enjoy cooking African cuisine and sporting activities such as soccer, running and my passion for fitness.
