Dr. Schindler is an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). There, he is the medical director of the OHSU-NW Clinic for Voice and Swallowing as well as the fellowship director for Laryngology and Neurolaryngology. He completed undergraduate work at Stanford University with a BS in Biology and a BA in Classics (Greek). He then completed medical school at the University of California, San Francisco and residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Johns Hopkins Medical Center. He then pursued fellowship training, completing fellowships in head and neck surgery at Johns Hopkins and Laryngology at Vanderbilt University. During his training, Dr. Schindler completed research work in cellular and molecular oncology at the NCI, immunomodulation at UCSF, hair cell regeneration at UCSF and tumor vaccine development at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Schindler’s current research interests include autoimmune and idiopathic airway stenosis, HPV in benign and malignant laryngeal disease, laryngopharyngeal reflux and swallowing disorders with a special interest in Zenker’s diverticulum. He is very active as a teacher in the medical school and otolaryngology residency. He lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife and two children.
