PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Otolaryngologists can provide comprehensive medical and surgical treatment for OSA. The need for alternative therapies has become clear as the world experienced a massive recall of PAP devices in 2021. This course will teach the indications and principles of application of oral appliances for OSA. Using didactic and hands-on instruction, this course will provide the practical basis required for beginning oral appliance therapy and will enhance knowledge of this modality. Assessment criteria, patient selection, reimbursement and coding will be reviewed. Highly experienced course leaders will demonstrate thermoplastic appliance production and participants will fit appliances themselves.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Identify the indications for thermoplastic oral appliance therapy

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Learn patient assessment, preparation and consent process for oral appliance therapy

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Learn to fit a thermoplastic appliance, and about titration and side effects

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: 1. By having an ENT provide the appliance, the patient has greater access & affordability
2. ENTs do not usually get residency training in Oral appliances
3. The CPAP recall in 2021 resulted in a great need for alternative therapies such as oral appliances
