PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This course will present an evolving endoscopic paradigm for the management of frontal sinus trauma, as well as a comprehensive review of traditional techniques. Diagnosis and treatment strategies will include: 1) endoscopic approaches to the fractures of the anterior table, posterior table (skull base), as well as the frontal recess: 2)open treatment of anterior table, posterior table, and frontal recess fractures: 3) sinus cranialization: and 4) management of complications. Concise video clips will demonstrate surgical techniques. Controversies in management of frontal sinus fractures will be addressed including: surgical indications, surgical techniques (endoscopic vs. open), Draf III vs obliterations vs cranialization; as well as endoscopic "unobliteration" after open obliteration.
OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Understand the pertinent anatomy and accurately diagnose frontal sinus fractures.
OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Apply a logical treatment algorithm encompassing the most current surgical techniques for management of frontal sinus trauma
OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Understand and apply both traditional and endoscopic treatment strategies for management of frontal sinus fractures
BACKGROUND STATEMENT: Advances in endoscopic sinus surgery (particularly Draf III frontal sinusotomy) has led to a recent paradigm shift from open, to endoscopic management of frontal sinus fractures. This knowledge gap will be filled by the proposed course
