(263) Increased Incidence of Vestibular Disorders in Patients with SARS-CoV-2

Introduction: Determine incidence of vestibular disorders in patients with different variants of SARS-CoV-2 compared to control population.

Methods: Retrospective study analyzing clinical data in the National COVID Cohort Collaborative database (N3C). Deidentified patient data from N3C were queried using SNOMED codes and 12 weeks bins based on variant peak prevalence (Untyped, Alpha, Delta, and Omicron) from covariants.org were utilized to analyze incidence of vestibular disorders from 7/6/2020 to 3/21/2022. Control cohort consisted of COVID-19 negative patients during the same time frame.

Results: Patients testing positive for COVID-19 were significantly more likely to have a vestibular disorder compared to COVID-19 negative controls. Compared to COVID-19 negative patients, the odds ratio of vestibular disorders was significantly elevated in patients with untyped (OR=1.94, CI 1.85-2.03; p< 0.0001), alpha (OR=2.82, CI 2.69-2.95, p< 0.0001), delta (OR=2.24, CI 2.17-2.32, p< 0.0001), and omicron variant (OR=2.24, CI 2.18-2.30, p< 0.0001).

Conclusions: The incidence of vestibular disorders differed for some COVID-19 variants and was significantly elevated in COVID-19 positive patients. These findings have implications in patient counseling and potential development of long-term sequelae such as Long COVID Syndrome.
