(190) Exploring Practice Models for Otolaryngology Trainees: A Comparative Analysis

Introduction: For trainees in otolaryngology, understanding various models of practice is important for making informed decisions about one's future career. Private practice, employment models, hybrid models, among other models each have their own unique advantages and disadvantages. Additionally, it is important to consider the integration of teaching surrounding practice models in graduate medical education (GME). The objective of this study is to provide a trainee's perspective on various practice models in otolaryngology and to evaluate the integration of teaching surrounding practice models in GME.

Methods: The study employed a critical literature review of existing studies and articles on the topic of employment models in otolaryngology. Future efforts will survey trainees for their understanding and knowledge of practice models and teaching surrounding these models (IRB Pending).

Results: This review indicates that trainees have a general understanding of the different practice models available, but often lack knowledge of the specific advantages and disadvantages of each model. Furthermore, it was found that there is limited integration of teaching surrounding practice models during training.

Conclusions: It is important for future Otolaryngologists to have a thorough understanding of the different practice models available and the potential impact on their future careers. The study highlights the importance of integrating teaching surrounding practice models in GME to ensure that trainees are well-informed when making decisions about their careers. Specifically, it also highlights the need of providing more mentorship and training surrounding career practice models. Future work will address these needs.
